LIHTC Tenant Data

A two-step research tool exposing HUD’s LIHTC Tenant Characteristics tables — demographics, household size, race/ethnicity, disability, family composition, income, rent burden, and federal subsidies — at the state and national level across reporting years.

Step by step

1. Choose a state

   Select a state, or leave All States for national data.
2. Pick years

   Check one or more reporting years (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023).
3. Choose a topic

   Select one of the 14 data tables.
4. View data

   Click View Data to load the table.
5. Sort & read

   Sort by any column and review the summary and row count.
6. Explore charts

   Scroll to the Visualizations section, which adapts to your selection.
7. Export

   Click Export CSV to download, or Modify Search to change inputs.

What you get

A sortable data table (Year and State always shown, plus topic-specific metrics) and an auto-generated Visualizations panel — a distribution donut, trend line, top-states bar chart, or year-comparison chart depending on your state/year combination. Results export to CSV.

Tips & notes

• Both a year and a topic are required before View Data enables.
• Tables 4b and 12b only have data for 2022–2023.
• Pick a single state with multiple years for trend lines, or All States with one year for a top-states ranking.
• Data is HUD’s annual Tenant Characteristics reports; 2020 is not available.
